Acceptable Use Policy

This policy explains the lawful purposes of Anywhere Monitor and the rules every user agrees to before installing the software. It applies to all editions and all operating systems (Windows, Mac and Ubuntu).

The lawful purposes

Anywhere Monitor may only be used for the following purposes:

  1. Monitoring your own computers. You may install the agent on hardware you own and record activity on it for your own purposes.
  2. Parental monitoring. You may monitor computers you own that are used by your minor children, in accordance with your local laws.
  3. Workplace monitoring. You may monitor company-owned computers when employees have received advance written notice and the organization has a published monitoring policy.

What is not allowed

  • Installing the agent on a device you do not own or are not authorized to use.
  • Monitoring any adult without their knowledge and consent, including spouses, partners, roommates or colleagues.
  • Using the software to access or harvest passwords, credentials or account information from systems you are not authorized to access.
  • Distributing, reselling or sharing the software or its logs outside the terms of your license.
  • Any use that violates local, state, federal or international law.

Consent and disclosure

Disclosure is the foundation of responsible monitoring. Tell the people who use the computer that it is monitored, explain what is tracked and why, and show them what data you can see. In the workplace, publish a clear policy and have employees acknowledge it before monitoring begins. Several states - including California, Connecticut and Delaware - require written notice for employer monitoring.

Children under 13

If your monitoring collects personal information from children under 13 in the United States, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) may apply. Review COPPA's requirements, consider what data you really need, and involve children in an age-appropriate conversation about why the computer is monitored.

Visible and discreet operation

The agent runs without desktop icons, taskbar entries or visible windows so that children cannot easily disable protection. This design is intended for computers you own. It does not change your legal obligation to use the software only for the lawful purposes listed above - see our guide to monitoring law for details.

Data you collect responsibly

  • Keep your monitoring account password strong and private - logs contain sensitive activity.
  • Only collect what you need for the purpose you disclosed.
  • Delete logs you no longer need.
  • Never share monitoring data publicly.

Liability and compliance

You are responsible for complying with all applicable laws when using the software. iMonitorSoft provides this product for lawful monitoring of devices you own or are authorized to monitor; we are not responsible for any misuse, and we may terminate licenses used unlawfully.
